As we are determining the best practices for the use of Standards Based Grading in Spanish class, a change has been made to how the final grade is calculated, as this is a class for High School credit.
There are 15 standards (see below) for all World Language classes. The final grade for each standard will be the last scored assessment for that standard. All assessments along the way are checkpoints that inform the student, parents, and teacher of ability in each standard.
Spanish is a class where the material learned builds on itself, meaning that what is learned in September is knowledge that is needed to be successful in October, and this new knowledge builds the base for the learning that will take place after that. By the end of the school year, all material learned throughout the year will contribute to the working vocabulary and grammar of the student in Spanish.
If there are any questions about Standards Based Grading or how a student is doing in Spanish class, please do not hesitate to contact me. My goal is the success of each student.
