Check out the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta this weekend in Holland! Click here to see all the details, and the pdf to the right has the lineup of events. See you there! Quick history of Cinco de Mayo: Cinco de Mayo (or the fifth of May) commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. It is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, but in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, with credit given to the Chicano movement of the 1960's for claiming this day as their own. Today people in the U.S. celebrate even if they are not of Mexican decent, just as we also do with St. Patrick's day and Tulip Time. | |
